Concert in Szimpla Café: Hybrid Epic on 06.02.2007. (Tuesday) from 20:00. The duo was founded in summer 2005. The beginning was easier, than the participants ever tought and after 1,5 years they ‘ve begin with their first concert tour. The style is not so easy to define: a little bit of the sounds of the 80’s, a little bit of the trance sounds of the 90’s and a little bit of creativity from the 21th century.

Szimpla Kert will be hosting the exhibition by www.visiontrip.hu (VIIth district, Kazinczy u. 14., 352 41 98) starting from October 6th. In the meantime pictures will be posted on the website.
On October 18th and 19th Bázis Film Festival will be introduced in the Garden starting from 19 pm. This selection of animated films, documentaries, and fiction gives a good opportunity for young and independent filmmakers to introduce themselves to the public and at the same time get to know each other.
This year’s last bycicle fair – with the slogan „In case you have nothing to preserve for winter”-  will be held on Saturday October 7th, from 12-18 pm at Szimpla Kert. Szimpla to the people! The first SZIMPLACC –drinks, food, lights, music-, opens up in Városház park (Deák tér) on September the 1st.The opening night will feature Harcsa Veronika Quartet, while on September the 8th the evening will be hosted by Smarton Trió. As far as Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays are concerned DJ Péter Zsuffa will be entertaining the crowds with his audio-visual show.

Szimpla Kert is the winner of the award „Bycicle-friendly workplace 2006” in the cathegory for small-medium enterprises. The award ceremony will be held on September 21st.

BYCICLE/DIALOGUE – September 21st, 18 pm., Szimpla Kert. Open forum and debate about biking with numerous partecipants (bikers’ associations, the city council, etc.). Later: Ferenc Török’s movies on messengers.

Szimpla Kert Bike Fair. September 21st, Thursday, 12-17 pm. Choose a new one – sell an old one! Bikes, spare parts, accessories – purchase, sale, exchange.

On October 14th, Saturday we will host the second Eldorado exhibitoin of home design. A free table will be provided to everyone who wishes to expose stuff that has become useless but still valuable. Anything related to interior decoration is for sale, free of charge.

European Jewish Cultural Day on September 3rd starting at 19 pm at Szimpla kertmozi. 19.00: Szombat Szalon – an evening of literature and films by the Hungarian review Szombat. Before the readings a performance by saxophonist Dániel Váczi. 20.30: „Utricht” a film by Diána Groó.

Now open: a first class ladies’ room and terrace on Szimpla Kert’s first floor. The plans for the upstairs rooms are being elaborated by the architects of EASA.
Monday, July 31st, 17 pm: „The Belgrade Experimental Art Scene Now, Institutional and Parainstitutional Practices” – a lecture by Stevan Vukovic, aesthetist from Belgrade, at Szimpla Kert. The lecture will be held in English, interpretation is not provided.

July 26th – „Is the situation in the west unchanged?” A conversation with Péter Rohonyi, Amnesty International’s campaign coordinator, about Amnesty International’s reports on Hungary and mishandled social problems.

 „Ruhateszi” fashion show: 10 young designers, lights, music, fashion show – all together. Ruhateszi show in the Garden on July 10th, Monday, starting from 22 pm. The event is organised by Öltöző Fiatal Tervezők Ruhaboltja (Dressing Young Fashion Designers’ Clothes Shop) and Eredeti Shop. Hostess of the evening: Soma.

Night of left-out videoclips on Wednesday, on  the 21st of June starting from 22 pm at Szimpla Kertmozi. Music videos that are hardly or never played by the Hungarian music channels will be running throughout the night. The event is sponsored by dalok.hu and Mentha.hu.

  

Szimpla Stage at the Music Fest. On Wednesday 21st June at Nehru Part Erik Sumo, Anselmo Crew, Lajkó Félix and Kistehén Tánczenekar will be entertaining the crowds. Free entry.
The Barricade takes off again in the Garden. On Wednesday 14th, starting from 18 pm: „Is there any transition?” – featuring musicians Ambrus Tövisházi (Amorf Ördögök, Erik Sumo) and Albert Márkos on the possibilities and difficulties concerning contemporary songwriting. Is there any  transition between classical and pop music, is it worth writing music today in Hungary?

GAME OVER – The city council has sold the school building that used to host the Kiskert. The new owners refused to negotiate with us about the possibilities of renting. As far as we know the garden will be taken by restaurant Kék Rózsa.

Saturday June 10th, 11 am-17 pm. Bike fair again in Szimpla Kert. This time even more trash-bikes, cheap new ones and used ones, bike equipment and accessories. April 13th, 20 pm: in the Garden a solo violin concert by Baltazar Montanaro (Fr). The name might sound familiar because of the musicians’ father, who has previously played with Hungarian bands Vujicsics and Ghymes. We will be greeting spring with this performance.

Eredeti, our cultural plaza’s first shop opened recently. Objects from the past and from the future. Among the others: Jedi wrist, transistor radio and jewels from the future. You may find it at the cinema’s entrance.

At cinemas from March 16th: The night of shorts 2 – Kurz und gut. A selection of German short movies.

The March concerts will feature  -among the others-  an encore of the acclaimed gig by Horváth Misi and harp-virtuoso Little G Weevil in the garden as well as a performance Urdub 21, a band playing Eastern melodies.

Dupla has changed on February 24th – turning its menu unto a simpler and cheaper one. A wide selection of quality Hungarian wines. You can order food in the canteen and at Szimpla as well.
The new features of February’s musical selection include the dj-s popping in Puskin, Horváth Misi and Little G Weevil in the garden, Yengibarian, the Beste and FC Pop at the Szimpla. Have your pick!

Rashevski tango – Sam Gabarski’s movie featuring the magical music of Michael Galasso (Love on air, Chungking Express) is out in cinemas from December 15th.
Barricade at Puskin: November 12th, 19 pm. Roles and addictions – there are countless legends concerning alcohol and other narcotics in Hungarian literature. Is there a hidden prestige connected to drinking and other addictions? Poet Tamás Jónás and addictologist Sándor Funk have a conversation on the subject.
